Family testimonials for Mears Family Funerals - Ladywell & Lewisham
“Sharon was very sensitive and thoughtful about how she dealt with things at a difficult time. Excellent communication. Very much appreciated. Thank you”
“Mears done my uncles funeral. Thay are kind helpfully from the beginning and I was satisfied with there work. A big thank you to them”
“On behalf of my sister and I, we would like to express our sincere thanks for Mears at Ladywell and especially Natalie for the first rate service in organising our late mother's funeral. Natalie made this such a painless process, and responding to all our requests, even last minute changes when I asked to change a piece of music the day before the funeral. They respected all our wishes and provided Claire a very personable and kind celebrant. Our mother had a dignified send off thanks to Mears.”
“I am deeply disappointed and hurt by the experience my family had with Mears Family Funeral Services. What should have been a respectful and dignified farewell for my father turned into a distressing ordeal due to a series of serious failings on their part. My father was not embalmed, and despite the clear need for refrigeration, his body was left unrefrigerated at the funeral home for five days. As a result, there was a noticeable and growing odor each day. When we raised this concern with Natalie, we were told it was "normal" — a claim that goes against basic standards for handling unembalmed remains. Rather than taking proper action, she simply sprayed air freshener. Natalie’s behavior throughout was deeply inappropriate. She made a offhand joke and disrespectful comment about my dad’s body in the chapel, which was not only unprofessional but incredibly upsetting to me and my family as we grieved. We had made a specific request for white horses for the procession, but black horses were brought on the day. When we expressed our disappointment, we overheard the horse handler speaking dismissively about our concerns. To make matters worse, the horses arrived late, preventing the proper goodbye we had planned outside my home. We had also requested that the celebrant not say "ashes to ashes, dust to dust" during the service. This instruction was ignored, despite being clearly communicated in advance. A blanket we had asked to be placed in the coffin with my father was also forgotten. We made a formal complaint after the service, but it has been completely ignored. No one has taken responsibility, apologized, or even acknowledged the distress we experienced. Losing a loved one is difficult enough — no family should have to endure the added trauma of such careless, disrespectful service. I would not recommend Mia’s Family Funeral Services to anyone. --- We do not advise anyone to use Mears if they want their loved one to have a dignified send off. We are in the process of seeking legal advice. I am now editing this review to reply to you Steven Mears. I am disappointed by the response from Mears Family Funerals, which dismisses my family’s very real and painful experience as “made up.” At no point have we been treated with accountability or compassion following the failings we experienced during my father’s funeral. To clarify: We did make a complaint directly to the company after the funeral, which was ignored. To now suggest that no complaint was made is inaccurate. The issues I described are factual, supported by multiple family members who were present. For the company to publicly claim they are “just made up” is extremely hurtful and shows a lack of professionalism. Referring to the “tragic details of the death” of my father in a public forum is inappropriate and unnecessary. My review focused on the conduct of the funeral home, not on private medical matters that should not be disclosed here. My family deserved dignity and respect for my father. Instead, we were left with lasting distress from the way his body and his funeral were handled. The fact that the company has responded in this way, rather than offering accountability or even an apology, speaks VOLUMES!! This is a funeral home not a supermarket review!!”
“Natalie at Mears family funeral was unbelievable . So helpful at every stage at a difficult time. Her cheery disposition was especially helpful and she kept me informed regularly with progress even finding me a Scottish Piper for my brothers funeral . I could not recommend them more . Thank you”
